Terms of Service

Last updated and effective October 25, 2026 (revision 4)

The short version

  • You must be 13 or older. If you're under 18, you need a parent's or guardian's permission.
  • Your school's rules about AI come first, and following them is up to you (see section 5).
  • The teachers are AI. Their work can be wrong, so check everything before you use it.
  • Proctor never submits anything unless you turn on Submit from Proctor and press Submit for that assignment. Auto-approve only skips the approval step, and Turn in everything only opens your school's page or, with Submit from Proctor on, shows you what would be sent: you read the work and decide.
  • Proctor has three plans: Student, Autopilot and Unlimited. Checkout isn't open yet, so until it opens every account is free and nobody is charged. Before your first payment, we will show you the price, the renewal terms and how to cancel, and ask for your agreement.
  • These Terms are governed by Florida law. Questions: proctoroffical@gmail.com.

1. This agreement

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Proctor, an online homework service run by its founder and CEO ("Proctor", "we", "us"). They cover the Proctor website, the portal at /portal/ and the services behind them (the "Service"). Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and is part of these Terms.

By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you are under 18, please read them with your parent or guardian: by letting you use Proctor, they agree to these Terms too and are responsible for your use. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.

2. What Proctor is

Proctor gives you a school of AI "teachers" that work on homework you add or import from school accounts you connect. They hand the work back with Teacher's Notes, a Tutor me mode and study material, and you decide what to do with it. There is also a demo school with simulated teachers and sample homework.

The teachers are AI, not people, and they are not your real teachers or connected to your school. Proctor never submits anything unless you turn on Submit from Proctor and press Submit for that assignment. It never posts or messages anyone, and turning work in is always your own decision.

Auto-approve. Finished work waits in My Locker for you to approve it. With auto-approve on (in Settings), work that passes Proctor's grading skips the approval step and goes straight to "Ready to turn in". It may already be on for some accounts: Settings shows whether it is on, and you can turn it off at any time. Auto-approve doesn't turn anything in and doesn't check the work for you: you are responsible for reading the work before you turn it in.

Turn in everything. In My Locker, Turn in everything takes you through your finished work one assignment at a time. For each one, it opens that assignment's page on your school's site (such as Canvas or Google Classroom) in a new tab, with the file downloaded or the text copied to your clipboard, depending on what the assignment asks for. If the work isn't approved yet, the step's "Approve & …" button approves it. You submit it yourself on your school's page, then tell Proctor whether you turned it in. Some homework has no page Proctor can open (for example, homework you added yourself): turn it in on your school's site or in class, then mark it turned in. Proctor never fills in, clicks or presses anything on your school's page. With Submit from Proctor on, a Canvas step offers Review & submit to Canvas instead, which works one assignment at a time exactly as described below.

Submit from Proctor (Canvas). On accounts where it is available, you can turn on Submit from Proctor for a Canvas connection in Settings › Connections. It is off until you turn it on. Then a Submit to Canvas button appears on finished Canvas work in My Locker. It opens a review screen that shows exactly what will be sent: the assignment, the course, and the full text, the file, or the link. Nothing is sent until you press Submit on that screen, and each press sends one assignment once. Proctor never submits on its own, on a schedule, after auto-approve, or several assignments at once. It only works for Canvas assignments that take a text entry, a file upload or a website link, never for quizzes, tests or discussions. If Canvas refuses, Proctor shows you why and never tries again on its own. Proctor keeps a record of each attempt and Canvas's answer in My Locker. You can turn it off at any time with one click.

3. Who can use it

  • You must be at least 13 years old. Proctor does not allow accounts for children under 13, and we will delete any account we learn belongs to one.
  • If you are under 18 (or under the age of adulthood where you live), you may use Proctor only with the permission of a parent or legal guardian who agrees to these Terms.
  • Proctor is meant for people in the United States.
  • You can't use Proctor if we have previously banned you from it, or if the law forbids it.

4. Your account

  • Give us a real email address that you control, and keep your account information accurate.
  • An account is for one person. Don't share it or let anyone else use it.
  • Keep your password secret. You are responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password, sign out your other devices in Settings › Account, and tell us.
  • There is no password-reset email yet. If you forget your password, email us from your account's address.

5. Academic integrity is your responsibility

Your school and your teachers decide how you may use AI. Many schools limit it or ask you to say when you used it. You are responsible for knowing and following your school's academic integrity policy, honor code and each teacher's rules about AI.

  • Use Proctor's work only in ways your school and teachers allow. Don't turn it in as your own without permission, and say you used AI whenever you're required to.
  • Read and understand any work before you use it, including work that auto-approve sent straight to "Ready to turn in" and anything you submit from Proctor. Teacher's Notes and Tutor me are there to help you learn it.
  • We don't promise that Proctor's work is original. Other people may get similar results, and plagiarism checkers or AI detectors may flag it.

The consequences at school are yours: Proctor is not responsible for grades, discipline or other consequences of how you use the Service or its work.

6. AI-generated work

  • Work from Proctor is generated by AI (Anthropic's Claude). It can be wrong, incomplete, out of date or made up, including facts, math, quotes, page numbers and sources. It may not follow your teacher's instructions or rubric.
  • Check everything before you rely on it or use it. Proctor's work is not professional advice of any kind (medical, legal, financial or otherwise).
  • As between you and Proctor, you own the work Proctor makes for you, subject to these Terms.

7. Your content

You keep ownership of everything you add to Proctor: homework, files, answers and other material ("Your Content"). You give us permission to store, copy, process and transmit Your Content (including sending it to our AI provider) only to run the Service for you, as described in the Privacy Policy. That permission ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies that remain for a short time in backups.

Only add content you have the right to use (for example, your own work and the materials your teacher gave your class). Don't add other people's personal information unless it is needed for your homework.

8. School connections

  • Connecting Canvas, Google Classroom or a calendar feed is optional. By connecting one, you allow Proctor to read your information there on your behalf, as described in the Privacy Policy. Proctor never writes to those platforms, except the one Canvas submission you confirm with Submit from Proctor (section 2).
  • Submitting from Proctor. Before you turn on Submit from Proctor you must confirm that you understand that: some schools don't allow apps to submit work for students, so check your school's rules and your teachers' policies first; to submit, Proctor uses your Canvas access to write to Canvas (add a submission and upload its file) instead of only reading; and you are responsible for everything submitted from your account, including what Proctor sends when you press Submit. Proctor can't take a submission back: Canvas keeps every attempt, and Submit again adds a new one. Proctor is not responsible for a submission your school or teacher doesn't accept, a late or missed submission, or Canvas refusing or changing a submission. Check on Canvas that your work arrived. If your school doesn't allow it, don't turn it on.
  • When Proctor opens an assignment on Canvas or Google Classroom for you (from My Locker or Turn in everything), it only opens the page in your browser. It doesn't fill in, attach, click or submit anything there.
  • Follow the rules of each platform you connect. If your school doesn't allow access tokens or third-party apps, don't use them.
  • Proctor is not affiliated with or endorsed by Instructure (Canvas), Google or Veracross. Those platforms can change or stop working with Proctor at any time, and imported due dates or details may be incomplete or late. Your school's own platform is always the source of truth.
  • You can disconnect at any time in Settings › Connections.

9. Acceptable use

Don't use Proctor to:

  • break the law or your school's rules, or cheat on tests, quizzes or exams;
  • add content that is illegal, harassing, hateful, sexually explicit, or that infringes someone else's rights;
  • try to make the AI produce harmful content, or do anything that breaks Anthropic's Usage Policy;
  • probe, scan or attack the Service, get around its security, rate limits or spending caps, or make extra accounts to get more AI use or get around plan limits (if you find a security problem, please tell us privately);
  • copy, scrape, resell or reverse-engineer the Service, or access it with bots or other automated means except through its own pages;
  • pretend to be someone else, share your account or use someone else's.

10. Plans, limits and fees

  • Checkout isn't open yet. Until it opens, every account is free: nobody is charged, and Proctor never asks for payment details. The plan limits below apply once an account has a paid plan.
  • Plans. Proctor has three plans, Student, Autopilot and Unlimited, with prices listed on the pricing section of our home page. Prices are in US dollars. Once checkout opens, monthly and weekly plans will be subscriptions: they will renew automatically at the price shown when you subscribed until you cancel, and you will be able to cancel anytime in Settings, which stops the renewal. Semester and School-year passes are one payment with no renewal, and end after 5 months (Semester) or 10 months (School year). Unlimited has no weekly option.
  • Plan limits. Assignments a month: 15 on Student, 40 on Autopilot, and about 80 on Unlimited under fair use. Most in one day: 3 on Student, 8 on Autopilot and 15 on Unlimited. A big assignment, like a research paper or anything 1,500+ words, counts as 2 on Student and Autopilot and as 1 on Unlimited; any other homework counts as 1. On Unlimited, past about 80 assignments in a month, your work goes to a slower queue and uses a lighter model. The most-in-one-day limit resets at midnight in your time zone.
  • AI spending cap and daily limit. AI use also has limits. Each email address has a spending cap on AI usage (shown in the portal), and there is a daily limit for all users together. When your cap is used up, live AI work stops (the demo school keeps working); when the daily limit is reached, live work pauses until the next day. Caps belong to the email address and don't reset if you delete your account and sign up again. We may change these limits at any time.
  • If you add your own Anthropic API key, Anthropic bills you directly under its own terms, and you are responsible for that cost.
  • Before your first payment. Before anyone's first payment, Proctor will show the price, the renewal terms and how to cancel, ask for your clear agreement, and update these Terms with the remaining billing details (who processes payments, taxes, refunds and price changes). After you subscribe, Proctor will send you a confirmation you can keep of the price, the renewal terms and how to cancel. Nothing will be charged without your agreement.

11. Our property

The Service, its software, design, characters, pixel art, logos and the Proctor name belong to Proctor. We give you a personal, non-commercial, non-transferable permission to use the Service under these Terms, which we can take back if you break them. If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them freely without owing you anything.

12. Ending your use

  • You can stop using Proctor and delete your account at any time in Settings › Account.
  • We may suspend or close your account if you break these Terms, if the law requires it, or to protect other users or the Service. When it is reasonable, we will tell you why first.
  • We may change or stop the Service. If we shut it down, we will email you at least 30 days before, when we can, so you can download your work.
  • Sections 5, 6, 7 (for content already processed), 11, 13, 14, 15 and 17 continue to apply after your account ends.

13. Disclaimers

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, Proctor makes no warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We don't promise that the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free, that imported homework or due dates will be complete or on time, that AI work will be correct, or that using Proctor will lead to any grade or result.

14. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Proctor will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost grades, academic penalties, lost data or lost profits, arising from or related to the Service, even if we were told they were possible. Proctor's total liability for all claims about the Service is limited to the greater of US$50 or what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim (until checkout opens, nobody pays Proctor anything). Some places don't allow some of these limits; there, they apply only as far as the law allows.

To the extent the law allows, you agree to cover Proctor's reasonable costs from claims by others that arise from your breaking these Terms or misusing the Service.

15. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida and applicable federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. If you have a problem, please email us first: most issues can be fixed quickly, and we will try in good faith to resolve it within 30 days. If we can't, any claim must be brought in the state or federal courts located in Florida, and you and Proctor agree to their jurisdiction. Either of us may instead bring an eligible claim in small claims court. Nothing in these Terms takes away rights you have under consumer protection laws that can't be waived.

16. Changes to these Terms

When we change these Terms, we will post the new version here with a new "Last updated" date. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or with a notice in the Service before it takes effect. If you keep using Proctor after a change takes effect, the new Terms apply; if you don't agree, stop using Proctor and delete your account.

17. General

These Terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and Proctor about the Service. If part of them can't be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don't enforce a part right away, we haven't given up the right to. You can't transfer your account or these Terms to someone else; we may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the Service. Nobody else has rights under these Terms. If you believe something in Proctor infringes your copyright, email us.
